Corrective Jaw Surgery?

Reasons

The Procedure

Would I benefit from Corrective Jaw Surgery?

Orthognathic surgery or “jaw surgery” can correct issues that cause the jaws to be unable to align properly. In the same way that teeth can be straightened with orthodontics, the misaligned jaw can be corrected with jaw surgery.

The benefits of having jaw surgery include improved facial appearance and properly functioning teeth and bite. Whether the problems with the jaw occurred naturally from birth or were caused by environmental influences or trauma to the face, corrective jaw surgery is a smart and effective option for issues relating to the mouth and jaw.

The following issues may be addressed with corrective Jaw Surgery

  • Sleep Apnea / breathing problems
  • TMJ or chronic jaw problems
  • Improper bite
  • Speech problems
  • Difficulty chewing, biting, or swallowing
  • Protruding jaw

CONSULTATION AND EXAM - Comprehensive examination and health history will be reviewed in order to help you determine the optimal treatment. This surgery is usually done in conjunction with orthodontic (braces). If you are questioning if you would benefit from potential corrective jaw surgery, either ask us or your orthodontist. There is both an artform and a science of jaw surgery. We will help you find the balance of aligning your bite and correcting facial harmony. Although the primary goal is establishing form and function of the jaw, there is many cosmetic factors that can also be addressed.

SURGICAL APPOINTMENT:  Our staff will help you arrange for preoperative administrative appointments at Littleton Adventist Hospital where Dr. Plevnia and Dr. Escalante routinely treat patients. Some jaw surgeries can go home the same day and some will require an overnight stay. We will completely personalize this experience for you and help relieve your anxiety.
